In the middle of the fjord is a long wooded point separating Bogø Bay and Saunsø Bay. Here are two woods. Large Vejlø Wood is innermost, and outermost is the Small Vejlø Wood – they are collectively referred to as Vejlø Forest. Here can be found an unusual silence, as people rarely come to woods that are not accessible by car. The two woods are very interesting coastal forests with rich wood fringes and unusual trees and shrubs.
In the forest fringes, hawthorn, field maple, orchard, dogwood, spindle tree, wild pear, forest linden and oak can be found among other species. Moving stealthily along trails and paths, and not disturbing the animals, many enjoyable experiences can be had.
The forest also conceals a few small mounds, and what is called the ’secret gallery grave’, situated in an area with norman firs. Previously there was no access to the grave, but new rules of the Nature Protection Act gives access via gates and styles.
Occasionally the nature guide arranges tours of Vejlø Forest. On these access to the tip of the point is generally allowed. This offers an excellent view of the fjord.
